Last weekend, techno fans from around the world descended upon Detroit for three days of inspiring electronic music in the Motor City. There were over 100 artists playing over the course of the holiday weekend, and as always the Internet has birthed a number of these live sets for the enjoyment of everyone, even those unable to be there in person (or in our case, make every single set we wanted to see). If you want to know what it sounded like out there on Hart Plaza, or maybe even if you are thinking about going next year, take a listen below to eight of our favorite sets from the weekend that were caught on tape.
For Day 2 of Movement Electronic Music Festival, Hart Plaza was filled once again with techno nerds and audiophiles from around the world ready to experience the sights and sounds of the best of underground dance music. Detroit has certainly opened its arms to us visitors — everyone from convenience store owners to cab drivers seem to understand why we’re here and heartily suppose the cause. Even those who could not themselves enter the festival scanned the exterior perimeters of the gates, moving to and enjoying the music in any way they could.
When Magda, Marc Houle, and Troy Pierce came together in 2011 to create the Item & Things imprint, they embarked on a mission to bring some of the most unique and innovate techno and house music to the electronic world masses. Iranian-born, Berlin-raised DJ Nyma makes his solo debut release on the label with a remix from label-head and legendary techno producer Marc Houle. The preview clip showcases Houle’s signature minimal techno glee — showing the relentless and driving beat work that we’ve come to expect from the Canadian producer. The track will be available for purchase via Beatport on March 15th.Posted by

Back in 2009, when the Serbian Exit Festival was celebrating its 10th year, Pete Tong put together one of the most legendary Essential Mixes ever recorded. This 120 minute segment features back-to-back sets from techno kingpins Riche Hawtin & Dubfire, and Magda & Loco Dice, respectively. The party takes place in a medieval castle and is dubbed by Pete Tong as “one of the best DJ stages in the world at one of the best festivals in the world.” These four acts are undeniably masters of their craft, and when placed side-by-side create an energy of incomprehensible magnitude. Jump past the break for full stream and tracklist, and enjoy getting lost in some of the best techno music of our time. (more…)Posted by
