Though Knife Party first kicked off the tour last year and opted to use the same visual combination of chainsaw, fake blood and half-naked ghoulish dancers, the Mansion set was anything but predictable. The duo took the decks around 3 a.m, immediately setting the crowd ablaze with the still unreleased “Power Glove.” That would be the first and last new track that was recognizable, and for the next twenty five minutes the duo unleashed material we can only assume to be off their forthcoming EP. Rob and Gareth of Knife Party are weeks away from taking Miami by storm, and they’re bringing some friends along for the trip. Not just “Internet Friends,” but fellow heavyweight DJs that will join them at their trademarked party at Miami’s Mansion. Set for Wednesday, March 20th, smacked between both weekends of Ultra Music Festival, Knife Party will presumably debut ”Power Glove” and additional new material in typical MMW fashion. Tickets go on sale today at 3pm EST — check back to claim them for yourself.
The Opium Group, the conglomerate representing Miami clubs Mansion, Cameo, Set, and Mokai, has just announced their first phase of Miami Music Week parties. So far Opium has only shared details about these eight shows at four clubs for the week of March 19 through March 24th, but there are sure to be many more events dribbling in the lead up to Ultra, WMC, and MMW. There’s a little something for everyone: Afrojack and his Jacked party, John Digweed and Bedrock, Umek and his 1605 crew, James Zabiela and Born Electric homies, John Dahlback and other Mutants, and Arty, Morgan Page, and Robbie Rivera to boot. Bring it on Miami.
On December 14, DJ Shadow was kicked off the decks mid set at Mansion Nightclub in Miami, for playing a set that the club deemed “too futuristic.” While public outrage ensued via social media, Mansion has since issued a formal apology to the turntable legend. After the drama transpired, the music world was left wondering “what the hell did Shadow play to get kicked off during his own headlining tour?”
In response to the rampant curiosity, DJ Shadow has uploaded his “All Basses Covered” set from the night. Spanning everything from trap, to hardcore rap, to breakbeat, to glitch hop, DJ Shadow’s set is future bass music beaming with conspicuous Bay Area influence. Check out DJ Shadow’s set below, which is “too futuristic” in the best sense of the word.
The DJ Mag Top 100 awards will take place on Friday October 19th at the Amsterdam Convention Factory, smack dab in the middle of the world’s largest music conference / festival, Amsterdam Dance Event. Another party will take place simultaneously at London’s Ministry of Sound, where the world’s (new?) number 1 DJ will play a second set of the night. Artists like Arty and Hardwell will support in Amsterdam, while Thomas Gold and Markus Schulz will be in London.
Luckily for stateside voters, DJ Mag will be throwing parties in the US as well: Mansion Miami on October 24th, Lavo New York on October 25th, Marquee Vegas on October 27th, LA on the 28th. The world’s new number one DJ will be playing at all three shows stateside — we’ll let you know who it is as soon as we do! Ticket purchase links below.
Alesso, Otto Knows, and Sebastian Ingrosso — the night’s “special guest” — could have just come and gone through Mansion’s venerable doors, but instead they came with something extra special. After all, it is Miami Music Week, and that meant a club jam-packed with people genuinely excited to be there. Whether you were up in the luxurious table area pouring from bottles or just buying drinks at the bar, everyone had a VIP experience in and got to see quite a show. This Miami crowd was one of the most memorable to date, not only did they know many of the tracks – but they also responded incredibly well. Keep reading for the top five tracks from the night that ultimately proved that ‘less is more.’
