Today’s Good Morning Mix should pose as a history lesson to most. Maarten Elen and Jonas Kiesekoms — the Belgian duo that make up Mumbai Science — have compiled a forty track mix comprised of techno classics from their beloved homeland. Some of these tracks are far out — at a time when techno was unforgiving and much more raw. It offers a unique perspective on how far music has come from the 80′s and 90′s. Have a listen and explore what electronic music lovers used to listen to twenty years ago. (more…)
If you haven’t heard Kavinsky’s dark downtempo masterpiece “Protovision” yet, you’re missing out on one of the more innovative sounds to hit the electro scene in recent memory. Producers simply can’t keep their hands off it. Boys Noize’s unrelenting remix made early waves, but he now has some stiff competition from the likes of Turzi Crack, Blood Orange and Mumbai Science.
Crack’s gritty rework somehow pushes the tempo down even further into the plodding depths, complete with rhythmic vocal allusions to the original mixer courtesy of D-Gage. Blood Orange plunges the track into unforeseen deep and funky territory, while Mumbai Science deliver their patented blend of dissonant electro and techno alongside oddly squealing guitar solos. Check out all three divergent reinterpretations after the break.

Mumbai Science, or Belgian duo Maarten Elen and Jonas Kiesekoms, are known for their hybrid sound of jacking electro house and brooding techno. They are the masterminds behind “Impact”– a new thumping techno single, which also comes with remixes by The Advent & Industrialyzer and John Roman. The track — their ninth release as a pair — features a menacing bass line with heavy electro stabs and driving rhythm.
On the remix package are legends Cisco Ferreira and Ricardo Rodriguez, who are known professionally as The Advent & Industrialyzer. The two have been making techno for over two decades and their skill set is more than apparent on this remix. Their take on “Impact” sees a more futuristic approach — bending the rules of what we perceive as techno and giving it more warehouse vibe. The up-and-coming John Roman speeds things up with darker elements like we’ve seen on Gesaffelstein tracks, but fits the mold of a club-ready banger with its uptempo chord play. The EP is set to release on January 14th.

Belgian DJ/Producer duo Mumbai Science has made a habit of piecing together riveting techno-centric mixtapes for the past 7 months. This duo has even seen support from dance music heavyweight Afrojack, who has been featuring their 7 minute acid house monster “Lotus” in many of his sets. On their latest edition of the Mumbai Science Tapes, Mumbai Science feature tracks from fellow Lektroluv Records label-mates, Sound of Stereo as well as BNR girl/boy duo, BS1 – who are quickly rising through the techno ranks with their wonky, bass line driven, productions. At just under 45 minutes, this mix moves through funky techno to driving electro and then back again, allowing you to ease into your morning before picking up the pace with Bart B More‘s remix of Peaches’ “Burst!” and Boy Noize‘s latest “Conchord.” Be sure to check out their SoundCloud for the rest of the Mumbai Science Tapes and explore some of their original productions, namely, “Reseachers” and the aforementioned “Lotus.”
