We shared Norman Doray and Nervo’s track “Something To Believe In” with you back in September, and now the remixes are starting to drip in. We’re lucky enough to share with you an exclusive of Russian duo Hard Rock Sofa’s take on the original big room tune. The pair chops and rearranges Cookie’s topline, giving the spotlight to a grungier, acid house 303 sound. Hard Rock Sofa shows they’re stepping a little bit outside of their comfort zone and it pays off.

We’ve come to expect a certain kind of sound when it comes to Nervo tracks, but their latest collaboration with Norman Doray is something refreshingly different. “Something To Believe In” doesn’t have the girls on vocals, but instead brings in Cookie for a soulful, anthemic topline. The video is shot at Neptunes Beach Club in the Hamptons and at Pacha NYC, showcasing an atypical — but enviable — lifestyle that admittedly looks pretty awesome. The track itself has old school disco vibes and feels like a very big tune. As the summer music season comes to a close, releases like this have us excited for fall.

The poster child of the American ‘mainstream’ dance music movement is back with a new album — or rather, an update to his last album. Nothing But The Beat 2.0 is David Guetta’s latest take on the current music landscape. Rather than call it an ‘update,’ it’s actually more of a revamp, selecting the most popular songs from last year’s release and adding in a selection of newer dance tracks. To balance out the pop influences from the likes of Akon, Sia, and Usher, Guetta brings in more dance-heavy talents, including Alesso, Daddy’s Groove, and the Nervo twins.
This summer was anything but average for Liv and Mim Nervo. Before touching down in New York City to take on the main stage of Electric Zoo, the twins spent two months on the sunny Spanish island of Ibiza, jetted to Amsterdam to work hand-in-hand with Armin van Buuren, and landed their Hook N Sling collaboration, “Reason,” in Beatport’s top 10.
I caught up with the girls before their set and we spoke about everything from dance music geography to future productions to the industry’s latest controversy. Let’s just say the bubbly Aussies have a mindset that the majority of producers or DJs lack — and the macho men of dance music should take note.
Our second day on Randall’s island was hotter and more hectic than the first. With a massive influx of concertgoers and a slew of big name progressive headliners, Saturday at Electric Zoo finally embodied the “zoo” aesthetic. All tents were packed to the brim with energetic fans, braving the heat and humidity to see their favorite acts. With names like Axwell, Dada Life, Wolfgang Gartner, Rusko, Above & Beyond, Steve Aoki, and Sasha on the lineup, there was a sound to satisfy anyone’s tastes — and plenty of security guards with hoses to keep the crowds cool.
Nervo returns from the success of “You’re Gonna Love Again” to team up with Hook N Sling for a big room progressive track. Flirting with anthem status, the collaborative effort is, as expected, a feel-good sound perfect for wrapping up the summer. While many producers attempt to capture a big room sound, Nervo and Hook N Sling offer its authentic makeup with bouncy chords, anticipated leads, and a unique drop. Not to mention a top notch vocal that comes standard with the Nervo brand. As the latest summer gem, find “Reason” on Beatport courtesy of Spinnin Records.
