Steve Angello set to play official day 1 after-party for EDC NY

edc-day1-after-party-steve-angello

Steve Angello and RPM have just announced the first official after-party for Electric Daisy Carnival New York.  Set to be held on Friday night after the first day of dance music at Citi Field, the afterparty sees Steve performing at Pacha NYC – something he has not done since last summer’s SIZE in the Park after-party.  The last time we saw Steve at Pacha he channeled his Mescal Kid persona and delivered a dark and techy set that surprised and delighted many of his longtime fans.  With Trent Cantrell’s release debuting on Steve’s newest label X and the buzz of Swedish House Mafia already far in his rearview, expect a unique and sonically diverse set from the SIZE label head.

Erick Morillo spins back-to-back with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano on Thanksgiving Eve

Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano go Back to Back with Erick Morillo on Thanksgiving Eve at Pacha NYC

Thanksgiving Eve is the homely cousin of New Year’s Eve, but that hasn’t stopped the city that never sleeps from stepping into bed with her once a year. Rarely one to argue with tradition, and knowing that a 7-hour back-to-back set meant I wouldn’t be leaving Pacha until the sun came up, I spent most of Wednesday evening napping in preparation for the early morning ahead of me.

Legendary DJ/producer Erick Morillo has certainly seen his fair share of Thanksgiving Eves, having shared last year’s affair with Danny Tenaglia. With a career spanning over two decades, Morillo has racked up a series of chart-topping singles, a piece of the Pacha NYC ownership pie, and an eponymously titled street sign, “Erick Morillo Way,” in his hometown. Although Morillo’s successes are being obscured — as is the case for many legends — by the new “electronic pop music” climate, his set with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano reminded me of the emerging failures of a system that privileges serial producers over quality DJs.

Thanksgiving 2012: Dancing Astronaut Gives Thanks

da-gives-thanks-2012

Today is Thanksgiving. It’s a time to give thanks for good health, good friends, good family, and, of course, good music. We thought we’d take the time to pay tribute to our favorite parts of dance music culture on this day of thanks, not only for the guys who slave over turntables while we get to party, but for the dance music scene in general and its constantly expanding fanbase. This one’s for the EDM acts that put their heart and soul into it, the clubs that go all out every night of the week, and the people who live and breathe house music. It’s the least we can do.

Martin Solveig & Danny Avila at Pacha NYC (11/10/12)

MartinSolveig_Pacha_11_10_12_158

Last weekend, Pacha NYC played host to world-renowned French DJ/ Producer Martin Solveig and up-and-coming wonder kid, Danny Avila. Hundreds of fans gathered at the packed New York City club to see a show that would be sure to keep energy high through the early morning hours. Having reviewed Martin Solveig at Electric Zoo Festival in September, I was very excited to see him return to the Big Apple for a more intimate show at Pacha. Danny Avila has exploded onto the dance music scene in 2012 — having caught the eye of Tiesto, Solveig, and many other dance music legends. It is clear that his talents have not gone unnoticed in the industry.

Afrojack, Erick Morillo and 48 others join Pacha NYC for ‘Help Heal NY’ benefit show

help-heal-ny2

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Pacha NYC and 50 DJs, including Afrojack, Erick Morillo, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Danny Tenaglia and more have put together a once-in-a-lifetime night of music. This Wednesday, from 5pm to 5am, “Help Heal New York” will be donating 100% of the proceeds to the Greater New York Red Cross and other local charities. Pacha co-owner and international legend Erick Morillo had this to say;

“I have so much love for New York and New Jersey and it was devastating to see the effect the storm had on our local communities” Morillo says. “I jumped at the chance to get involved in such a good cause and would like to thank the international dance community for coming together to help get our area back on their feet.”

In addition to donating all profits, the staff of Pacha and all artists are offering their services free of charge. From coat check tips to DJ fees, everyone in the building will be there for the sole purpose of supporting the tri-state area, and getting it back on its feet again.

Anyone interested in volunteering should reach out to volunteer@pachanyc.com.
