Since Sander van Doorn made his professional foray into electronic dance music in 2004, he has been destroying dance floors all over the world. We got to tag along with him last time he was at New York’s Pacha NYC to see what he does best. Beneath the swirling lights of the packed club, Sander captivated the audience with his self-dubbed and eponymously titled “SvD-style.” While he conjured musical magic tricks, bottles popped in the VIP, scantily clad dancers shimmied in rhythm to the beat, and the crowd jumped feverishly with each selection off his USB stick.
Known in part for his genre-bending musical diversity, the Dutchman delivered a variety of aural tonics that would please any type of EDM fan. His versatility kept the room at capacity until 4 in the morning. Despite having flown in from Las Vegas at 6:15AM and booked for another 6AM flight following his gig at Pacha, Sander even played a brief encore. This DJ is as gracious and humble as he is wildly talented, and we’re thrilled to have him on our latest episode of Behind The Booth.
It’s officially official. Electric Daisy Carnival is coming to New York through a partnership between Insomniac Events and Pacha NYC. Billboard was first to break the news, though it does not provide a venue or lineup information. (We may be able to help you with those, however.) According to Pasquale Rotella, Insomniac’s CEO and founder, “I’m really excited to be working with Pacha to bring our touring experience of Electric Daisy Carnival to New York. The entire Insomniac staff is looking forward to this upcoming EDC weekend on the East Coast.”
Pacha is continuing its birthday celebrations with another huge show: Fedde Le Grand is coming to the NYC hotspot this Friday, and bringing incredible up-and-comer Deniz Koyu with him. Dancing Astronaut wants you to be a part of the fun, so we’re giving away another pair of VIP tickets… but we’re also throwing in a meet-and-greet with Fedde himself and a DA/Pacha prize pack. We know you want to be there when Fedde turns Pacha into “Paradise” and Deniz gets “Dangerous” behind the decks, so enter now! We’ll pick a winner on Thursday at 6pm EST.
We’ve already given you the scoop on Pacha’s absolutely huge 6th anniversary celebration, and now we want to make you a part of it. Dancing Astronaut is giving away a pair of VIP tickets to Saturday’s show, which features a too-good-to-be-true lineup: Martin Solveig, Hardwell, R3Hab, Quintino, and Adrian Lux. To win, just head over to our Facebook page, like us (if you don’t already!), and leave us a comment about why you deserve to be there! We’ll pick a winner at random on Friday, December 2nd at 6 PM Eastern. Good luck, astronauts!
Looking for a place to be this holiday season? Pacha New York is doing it right with is 6th anniversary bonanza. Featuring a star-studded lineup beginning with Tiesto (tonight) and topping things off with a yet-to-be-announced “huge guest”, it’s an example of just how much talent the megaclub can handle.
The Masquerade Motel at Pacha has been occupying Ibiza every Monday night for the past three summers, but Swedish House Mafia will be embarking on a new adventure in 2012. The update is typically cryptic, and reasons that they would like to “explore more of what the beautiful isle has to offer. We’re certainly caught off guard by the move, and aren’t quite sure what their next one will be. Will they open their own club? Find a new residency somewhere else? Feel free to speculate in the comments, and read the full text below.
The rhythm of summer pulses from one island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. It blows up with international club tourists that dance all night and hang on the beaches all day. This island brings the SoundCloud-inclined rising stars of tomorrow and the old school big names alike. More top 100 clubs reside on this 220 square mile island than in the entire United States.
Of course I’m talking about the one, the only, Eivissa, or as you may know it, Ibiza (though it’s often pronounced with a lisp as in “Ibitha”). This season the halfway point between Barcelona and Algeria has been home to David Guetta’s prudish but legendary F*** Me, I’m Famous party, Eric Morillo’s Subliminal, the Come Together party at Space, Judgement Sundays at Eden, and Amnesia’s famous Cream. Our personal favorite, however, has to be Swedish House Mafia’s reigning event at Pacha, Masquerade Motel.
In this short Ibizan tale — typical of many — I’ll bring you through a 16 hour day in the world capital of dance music. From the morning trip to the fruit market, to the afternoon beach party, into the unforgettable main event of the evening — the Masquerade Motel, get ready to take a ride as you get a small taste of what this little island has to offer.
This remix has a great high-energy feel to it with a funky bass line that will make you want to bounce across the dance floor like there’s no tomorrow. The second and third drops both have amazing energy. This track was just released this past Wednesday on Pacha records and has jumped to the top of the Pacha charts on Beatport in a matter of days. This track is the newest from San Francisco producer and fellow astronaut Jared F. So give it a spin and become a pussy lover yourself!

Last weekend, NYC once again played host to some of the foremost names in dance music. Normally we are content, even appreciative, with one big name per week – but something much greater was in the cards…a weekend of back-to-back Afrojack and Laidback Luke.
Afrojack just posted this to his facebook page. This sounds like an absolutely bomb remix of Tinie Tempah’s ‘Pass Out’. The video was taken at his show last week in Pacha NYC. Looks like 2011 will continue the same way 2010 did for Afrojack (meaning: he will be achieving god-like status).
