Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano seem to always have two things on hand during their performances: energy and dance-ready beats. Friday at Pacha was no exception. Unlike the increasingly stale sets of late, I was able to enjoy an evening of lesser-known tracks – a given in most SJ+RM events. The set was refreshing but familiar, employing a mix of new tracks and familiar favorites that worked the Pacha crowd. At no point during the performance did I find myself rolling my eyes and wishing for the next transition. Instead I was able to spend most of my time wondering what they were playing, a feeling I’ve begun to miss more and more. So, here are five tracks you need to know.
Hot on the heels of the East coast’s first Electric Daisy Carnival, New Yorkers are already whispering about events like Identity Festival and Electric Zoo. However, DA would like to make it clear that there is still tons of partying to be had this summer and the list of events will congest the calendars of even the most dedicated ravers. Starting things off right, June will be a huge month for partying in the New York area – DJs from various genres will be playing at a wide range of venues that should be able to satisfy every kind of EDM fan. Making the right selections and understanding how to spend your valuable time (not to mention your hard-earned cash) is the key to having the superior summer.
EDC New York unfortunately ends on the earlier side at MetLife Stadium around 11PM, but thankfully the party will continue throughout the night — and probably well into the morning — at Pacha NYC, 4Sixty6, Bliss in New Jersey, and Cielo afterwards. There are three days of EDC, but Pacha has enlisted various different clubs to host afterparties each and every night.
On Friday, Fedde Le Grand will take over Pacha and Cosmic Gate will be at Bliss in NJ. On Saturday — well, that’s TBA. But leave it to the Jacked crew to close out the weekend, with R3hab at 4Sixty6 in Jersey, and Afrojack returning to Pacha NYC yet again. Tickets are on sale now, so head to Pacha NYC’s website for all the details!Posted by
We’ve been having a great time with these caption contests, so we’ve decided to make it a recurring thing. This week’s photo comes from Pacha NYC, where one of the biggest talents in EDM, Afrojack, and his significant other, Paris Hilton, have taken over the DJ booth. We see a lot of potential for this photo (everything from “I’m DJing!” to “Put on Some Bob Sinclar!”), so we’re excited to see what you can come up with.
PS: You can see the full album here.
Danny Tenaglia isn’t a name we often cover on Dancing Astronaut, but the heartfelt message he just posted to his Facebook page caught our attention. The 51 year-old DJ is “‘resigning’ (not retiring)” from the world of DJing after 26 consecutive years of WMC and 12 years in Ibiza. In his own words, “I HAVE SEEN THE MOUNTAINTOP as a DJ and I just need to STOP and smell the roses of my life.” He will be playing one final show for his belated birthday at Pacha NYC on April 28th, but all future gigs will be cancelled “until [he is] ready to return back to the decks.” In his career Tenaglia has racked up “over one million miles in the sky” and filled up three passports, but he simply wants to make some life changes and now seems to best time for him to do it. We wish Danny the best in all his future endeavors and will do our best to be there for his farewell show at the end of April. Read the full text of his message after the break.
Tickets for Electric Daisy Carnival New York are on sale again today at 12 Noon EST. Earlier this week, Pacha NYC and Insomniac Events announced the addition of a third day, and the tickets officially go on sale today. EDC NY is the first EDM event to take over MetLife stadium, and will be going down May 18, 19, and 20th. To purchase tickets, check the link below.
Our friends at Pacha NYC have been gracious enough to offer our readers the opportunity to attend not one of their many events going on in Miami next week but two. We’ve got a pair of tickets to the Kings of Ace Pool Party at the National Hotel on Wednesday, where you’ll be able to listen to R3hab and Bassjackers, along with scoring a meet and greet with the ladies of Nervo. As if that wasn’t enough, we’re also giving away the same tickets and meet and greet opportunity for Sunday at the Spin Artist Agency Showcase, where Arty, Swanky Tunes, and Rebecca and Fiona will be providing the day’s soundtrack. Since Sander van Doorn made his professional foray into electronic dance music in 2004, he has been destroying dance floors all over the world. We got to tag along with him last time he was at New York’s Pacha NYC to see what he does best. Beneath the swirling lights of the packed club, Sander captivated the audience with his self-dubbed and eponymously titled “SvD-style.” While he conjured musical magic tricks, bottles popped in the VIP, scantily clad dancers shimmied in rhythm to the beat, and the crowd jumped feverishly with each selection off his USB stick.
Known in part for his genre-bending musical diversity, the Dutchman delivered a variety of aural tonics that would please any type of EDM fan. His versatility kept the room at capacity until 4 in the morning. Despite having flown in from Las Vegas at 6:15AM and booked for another 6AM flight following his gig at Pacha, Sander even played a brief encore. This DJ is as gracious and humble as he is wildly talented, and we’re thrilled to have him on our latest episode of Behind The Booth.

It’s officially official. Electric Daisy Carnival is coming to New York through a partnership between Insomniac Events and Pacha NYC. Billboard was first to break the news, though it does not provide a venue or lineup information. (We may be able to help you with those, however.) According to Pasquale Rotella, Insomniac’s CEO and founder, “I’m really excited to be working with Pacha to bring our touring experience of Electric Daisy Carnival to New York. The entire Insomniac staff is looking forward to this upcoming EDC weekend on the East Coast.”
Pacha is continuing its birthday celebrations with another huge show: Fedde Le Grand is coming to the NYC hotspot this Friday, and bringing incredible up-and-comer Deniz Koyu with him. Dancing Astronaut wants you to be a part of the fun, so we’re giving away another pair of VIP tickets… but we’re also throwing in a meet-and-greet with Fedde himself and a DA/Pacha prize pack. We know you want to be there when Fedde turns Pacha into “Paradise” and Deniz gets “Dangerous” behind the decks, so enter now! We’ll pick a winner on Thursday at 6pm EST.
