Despite being a relatively young genre presently littered with disposable anthems of the moment, dance music already sports a handful of songs that are truly timeless. Trance icon Paul Oakenfold‘s 2002 mega-single “Southern Sun” certainly qualifies. More than a decade later, Carla Werner’s haunting vocals have not lost one bit of the ecstatic edge that catapulted Oakenfold’s Bunkka album to the top of the electronic charts.

Paul Thomas, a man who effortlessly oscillates between commercial, progressive, tech house, and trancier sounds, has teamed up with vocalist team Ladystation aka Sammy Jay and original Pussycat Doll Carmit Bachar on his latest release “Motivation” out on Magik Muzik. The track, although largely driven by big pop synths, bears its tech house teeth here and there as well. Not admitting to anything quite yet, but you might hear this catchy tune in some shower sing-a-longs at some point in the future. Pick it up after the break.

With the sensual, soothing “Morena,” British DJ/producer Paul Thomas and Israeli duo Weekend Heroes have achieved what we previously believed was impossible. Somehow, they’ve managed to seamlessly weave the elegant pulse of tech house with the nostalgic evocativeness of trance. It’s a masterpiece.
Listening to “Morena” is like making deliberate, sophisticated love beside the ocean on a milky-white moonlit night. It builds gracefully, crescendoes beautifully, and, like all good dance music, makes you move.

Paul Thomas is starting to gain some traction in the world of tech house. He has created some groovy tunes that would do well in any club setting. This time around he teams up with the Weekend Heroes to create “V.A.M.P,” the fast paced bassline reminds us a little of his previous release “The Difference.” That being said, “V.A.M.P” is considerably darker than what we usually expect from Paul, but we think it is due to the lack of lead synths during the build up. Miami Music week has a ton of tech oriented parties, we have a strong feeling that Paul will make his mark there.

Tech house jumpstart Paul Thomas has been on a tear recently with his release of “The Difference” remix. This time he teams up with Myke Smith to put their touches on Gareth Emery’s “Sanctuary”. The bassline reminds us of Calvin Harris’ remix of “Serious“. The progressive melody meshed with Lucy Saunders voice creates a spiritual calming feel throughout the entirety of the track.
