Lily Allen – Sheezus (Redlight Deconstructed Mix)
Lily Allen just uploaded a few demos and remixes to SoundCloud, the star of which is Redlight's remix of "Sheezus." Lily is clever, witty, and outspoken, so the stories she tells are generally the driving force in her songs. (That's not to say that her instrumentals are subpar; in fact, they're generally brilliant.) Here Redlight strips down both her lyrics and the already minimal instrumental, leaving nothing but a couple of vocal lines propelled primarily by simple drums. Though he neutralizes Lily Allen's most unique strength, the resulting mix is still absolutely breathtaking.
Redlight – C.A.S.S.I.E (Original Mix) [Free Download]
There are days when I wonder if some producers realize that it is in fact possible to release a song without sampling an R&B hit from a decade ago. That said, there are also days when someone surprises me with a track like "C.A.S.S.I.E." Redlight's edit takes Cassie's "Me & U" and transforms it into a DJ tool that's every bit as listenable as it is useful. (Redlight fans familiar with his Animal Youth moniker may find similarities between the drums used here and on "Keep Up," the Animal Youth take on Destiny's Child's "Lose My Breath.") The track is available as a free download through Redlight's Facebook page.
