The Blurred Lines Effect: Norman Doray and Rob Adans remix Robin Thicke’s second single, ‘Give It 2 U’
Robin Thicke served up “Blurred Lines” as the undisputed anthem of this summer. So, appropriately, its electrified remixes from the likes of Will Sparks and Laidback Luke worked similar wonders in the dance space. Now Thicke’s second single is making sounds, and to no surprise the Kendrick Lamar assisted “Give It 2 U” is beginning to see reworks — the first coming from Norman Doray and Rob Adans.
Together, Doray and Adans once teamed up to remix the classic “Woz Not Woz” by Steve Angello and Eric Prydz, but the tandem’s latest task is far from a classic house challenge. Injecting strong kicks and constructing almost and entirely new club-driven beat, the dance weapon leaves nothing (not even Kendrick Lamar’s verse) but the melodic hook of the original to seduce listeners.
No one can seem to get enough of Robin Thicke these days, but for those of us more inclined to dancier versions of the crooner’s megahits, the Bixel Boys have delivered that fusion once again. The duo are in the midst of celebrating signing to Windish Agency and have just announced the release of their first original EP on Sweat It Out Music but that’s not stopping them from adhering to those remixes that first got them attention from us. Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” went from radio hit to chart-topper in no time, stripped down to its skivvies for an unrated music video soon after, and has now been remixed following release of Thicke’s album. Will Sparks was first to tease his version but, this week, the Pharrell and T.I. collaboration is being offered as a packaged headlined by Laidback Luke. Luke’s rendition of “Blurred Lines” unravels the commercial nature of the original, swapping bleeps for lyrics and repaving the rhythm with deep Dutch drums.

LA’s own Bixel Boys have a knack for crafting some of the world’s favorite R&B tracks into down home club tracks. Like “Love Like This,” “P.Y.T,” and “Ride” before it, “Blurred Lines” fashions Robin Thicke’s risque crooner into a fresh booty-popping bootleg. With T.I. and Pharrell on the mix and the music video (NSFW) in the minds of millions of men around the country, the Bixels are harnessing the best of American pop culture for their own devises.Posted by
