Back in September Disclosure confirmed that they were working with legendary Chic front man Nile Rodgers on a forthcoming track. Not content to sit on their laurels after the rampant success of their debut album Settle, the Lawrence brothers brought Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes into the studio along with Nile to create the appropriately titled “Together.” The result is nothing short of spectacular.
Smith’s penchant for melancholic and lust-filled vocals has already proven to be the perfect compliment to Disclosure’s bubbly garage aesthetics, and the addition of Rodger’s slick guitar licks only amplify the sultry and seductive elements of the talented duo’s slow-brewed groover.
The Disclosure boys and “Latch” vocalist Sam Smith were the most recent guests for Sara Cox’s BBC Radio 1 live show and they decided to share a cover of none other than Duke Dumont’s smasher “Need U (100%)” as a special treat to listeners. Not like Disclosure really needed any more notoriety this week (let’s not forget Settle was released only two days ago), but this is certainly just further proof of the raw talent of these three. Brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence have announced a spring 2013 release for their debut album. Though the LP is yet to be titled, the two revealed the tracks will be similar to the house infused garage sounds we’ve heard on their Faces EP earlier this year. Disclosure has already tickled our ears with “Latch,” the first single from their work-in-progress album — and we have had a soft spot for the enormously talented sibling duo ever since. Their production chops continually impress us through thoughtfully delivered vocal hooks, chopped kick drums, and emotionally-driven beats, meaning the announcement will be met by some serious anticipation.
Brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence began their first American tour as Disclosure a few weeks ago. At only 17 and 20-years old respectively, they have been making music together over the last few years, releasing singles and short compilations along the way. Disclosure‘s production roots are in an updated version of two-step UK garage and funky house but have more recently offered bouncy synthesized outputs wrapped with poppy undertones.
San Francisco’s Independent was one of the first stops on their tour and the brothers were greeted by a packed venue of fans desperate to hear their unique blend of pop and UK garage. Stepping out just after 11:30pm, Guy and Howard played face-to-face rather than towards the crowd. With a dizzying array of laptops, drum machines, and keyboards the two gave listeners almost an hour and half taste of their sweet synth-heavy British tunes.
The Disclosure brothers are back with another track that demonstrates yet again why we are picking them out for major success. “Latch” is a beautifully melodic chill house track that treads a delicate line between garage and deep house. The track’s punchy bassline and airy melody are complemented perfectly by the soulful vocals of Sam Smith. It is quite a remarkable production, especially when you take into consideration that both of the brothers are still teenagers. Have a listen to the track below and stay tuned for the full release.
