Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano to appear in Playboy this summer

Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano at ETD Pop 2012

Sunnery James posted a photo to Instagram this morning of what seemed to be just another day in the life of electronic duo Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano. Posing for a photographer, photo shoots are nothing new, but the caption revealing that the photos are for Playboy magazine struck surprise. Sunnery and James won’t be posing nude for the world renowned magazine, but it has been revealed that they will be featured in July’s “Wet” edition.

The Dutch two-some won’t stand alone as the only electronic music icons to grace the pages of Hugh Hefner’s famous publication. Back in April, Krewella announced that they’ve interviewed with Playboy, and later confirmed that there wouldn’t be any nude photographs. While fans shouldn’t get their hopes up to see some of the hottest dance music acts unveiled, keep a look out for interviews in Playboy this summer — Sunnery and Ryan’s in the July issue and read Krewella’s online now.

Spinnin’ Sessions Nikki Beach: Five artists, five questions

IMG_3000

On Wednesday afternoon, revelers flocked to Nikki Beach to experience the sights and sounds of the Spinnin’ Records Spinnin’ Sessions showcase. Headlined by Sander Van Doorn and mystery guests Moguai, Nervo and Sunnery James & Ryan Mariano, 18 acts took to the decks over a nine hour music marathon that saw everything from trap to pop, rounded out by a heavy dose of electro house.

The day saw Carnage drop “Incredible,” Michael Calfan unleash “Resurrection,” Cedric Gervais rediscover “Molly” and Showtek throw down on “Slow Down.” Not even a spell of pouring rain could put a damper on the festivities. As the day wore on and the tent filled with bikini-clad beat-seekers, we took a break between sets to catch up with some of the Spinnin’ team to give you their own version of a Spinnin’ showcase. Click past the break to check out our five questions for five Spinnin’ artists. (more…)

Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano & Jaz von D – Firefaces (Energy 2013 Anthem)

6777101

Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano sparingly release original material, making each production special in its own way. Their latest offering, “Firefaces,” is a collaboration with Jaz von D, who has recently joined the duo at select American shows. Sunnery and Ryan’s signature tribal sound is put on the back-burner as Jaz lays down his Dutch progression atop a melodic chord styling. A change of pace for NYC’s resident duo and game changer for Jaz, “Firefaces” serves as the anthem for ID&T’s Energy 2013 and is now available to the globe.

Sunnery James, Ryan Marciano, & Jaz von D – Firefaces (Energy 2013 Anthem) [Preview]

New York City resident duo, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, have teamed up with Dutch youngster Jaz von D for their upcoming “Firefaces.” A rare production from Sunnery and Ryan, “Firefaces” is more climactic than their tribal style would indicate thanks to Jaz von D’s electro contribution. After playing recent shows back-to-back, and now getting together in the studio, the chemistry within this trio has been exposed. Dubbed the official anthem of ID&T’s Energy 2013, the collaboration is slated to be released on February 15th.

Erick Morillo spins back-to-back with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano on Thanksgiving Eve

Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano go Back to Back with Erick Morillo on Thanksgiving Eve at Pacha NYC

Thanksgiving Eve is the homely cousin of New Year’s Eve, but that hasn’t stopped the city that never sleeps from stepping into bed with her once a year. Rarely one to argue with tradition, and knowing that a 7-hour back-to-back set meant I wouldn’t be leaving Pacha until the sun came up, I spent most of Wednesday evening napping in preparation for the early morning ahead of me.

Legendary DJ/producer Erick Morillo has certainly seen his fair share of Thanksgiving Eves, having shared last year’s affair with Danny Tenaglia. With a career spanning over two decades, Morillo has racked up a series of chart-topping singles, a piece of the Pacha NYC ownership pie, and an eponymously titled street sign, “Erick Morillo Way,” in his hometown. Although Morillo’s successes are being obscured — as is the case for many legends — by the new “electronic pop music” climate, his set with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano reminded me of the emerging failures of a system that privileges serial producers over quality DJs.

Size in the Park: Steve Angello and family bring storms to NYC

DSC_0786

Climbing the ranks of international superstardom for over 18 years and showcasing his seasoned talents all over the planet, it is now becoming clear that Steve Angello has been destined from birth to conquer the capital of the world – New York City. First it was Madison Square Garden alongside SHM brethren Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, then it was Giants Stadium at New York’s inaugural Electric Daisy Carnival, and this time, the bearded Swede brought his Size Matters crew right to the heart of New York City: Central Park.

September 22nd, 2012 started off like a normal autumn afternoon in the big apple. Dog walkers, cyclists, and tourists were going about business as usual in Central Park – that was, until Pacha began to paint the streets red. With lines filing as early as 4pm and New York’s dance scene flooding the park, you could hear voices coming from the passing horse-and-carriages – “What is ‘Size in the Park’?” The early rumblings were loud, but by the time things got underway at 5PM, no one would expect the storms that would unfold.
