Defected Records returns with its 8th annual release of their compilation in preparation for the opening of the summer season in Miami. Oliver, the two man production team that recently bestowed upon us their Mechanical EP, have crafted quite the mixtape for Solé Bicycles’ most recent Fixtape. A DJ’s mixtape is an opportunity to operate differently than he might in a club or festival environment, and this one in particular really struck all of the right chords. It’s gritty like French electro, sparkling like nu-disco, and techy-deep all at once. It features some obvious crate-digging (a Gessafelstein track from 2008 among others), but also some underrated treasures from recent months from Djedjotronic, Daniel Avery, Eli Escobar, and Supernova. Originally co-written by British pop-sensation Mr. Hudson and the infamous hip hop frontman Kanye West, ‘Supernova’ debuted in the UK back in May of 2009. However, it was not until now, with a little help from club legend and Dancing Astronaut favorite Calvin Harris, that ‘Supernova’ has finally found it’s true potential as a club centerpiece. Combining the fantastic vocals of Mr. Hudson and Kanye, Harris found a way to navigate the song in a more electronic house-inspired path. Enjoy!
