Today is Thanksgiving. It’s a time to give thanks for good health, good friends, good family, and, of course, good music. We thought we’d take the time to pay tribute to our favorite parts of dance music culture on this day of thanks, not only for the guys who slave over turntables while we get to party, but for the dance music scene in general and its constantly expanding fanbase. This one’s for the EDM acts that put their heart and soul into it, the clubs that go all out every night of the week, and the people who live and breathe house music. It’s the least we can do.
Despite announcing the end of the their legendary TATW show, it doesn’t seem like Above & Beyond have any plans to slow down. The trio have touched many lives with their contributions and now they’re offering fans a glimpse into a place that has great significance to them — Ibiza. Jono, Tony, and Paavo take us on a tour of the white isle while discussing the influence of the island on their music, their first villa party, and staying current. As with everything Above & Beyond does, the video has a euphoric feel and reminds the little dreamers in all of us to dream on.
As a trailer for their 450th and final Trance Around The World and first Above & Beyond Group Therapyshows, the A&B team released a visually stunning trailer showcasing a cute acoustic cover by Lagori of their megahit, “Sun and Moon.” The show airs live this Saturday evening and will broadcast sets from Jody Wisternoff, Andrew Bayer, Norin & Rad, Mat Zo, and Above & Beyond in a marathon six hour event. Just two days ago Above & Beyond announced that their Trance Around the World radio show would be ending with its 450th episode in Bangalore, India. While this was a shock to the trance community, A&B wasted no time before revealing their new radio show, Group Therapy. This might sound familiar as it is frequently used for concerts featuring A&B and other Anjunabeat artists. The show will start on November 16th and their official statement is past the break. Trance fans around the world were shocked and saddened following Above & Beyond’s announcement that their 450 show in Bangalore would be their last (ever). They began this Trance Around The World #449 as a retrospective, but only framed it as a lead up to TATW 450. The episode is a touching recap of some of the most beautiful Anjunabeats releases, and will now be looked to as a trance milestone.
Episode #449 opens with Parker & Hanson’s “Arabesque,” and moves through favorites from Jaytech, Mat Zo, Andrew Bayer, and many more. The legendary trio appropriately ends with their own Analogue Haven remix of OceanLab’s “Breaking Ties.” To conclude the episode’s final track, the trio — who have been releasing this radio show weekly for the past nine years — state, “finally some news just in.. Trance Around the World 450 will be the last ever Trance Around the World…bye for now.”
We’re not sure what this means for the future of Above & Beyond, their releases, or touring plans but we’ll keep you updated as more information comes in. The announcement marks the end of an era and is, for many, a hard pill to swallow. Click the jump for the full tracklist and audio of the episode.
