Fanfare in Roseland: Thomas Gold wraps up world tour with sold out NYC show

thomas-gold-roseland-ballroom-13

During the summer of 2011, Thomas Gold opened for Steve Angello at New York City’s Size Matters on Governors Island. It would be a monumental evening for Gold — an evening that marked his ascension to NYC superstardom. Since that warm August night, Thomas’s career has taken off and his fan base in the Big Apple has grown exponentially. After playing Cosmic Opera with Axwell, ringing in the inaugural EDC NY, and returning to Governors Island to headline a show of his own, the German maestro brought his New York dominance to new heights with a sold out Roseland Ballroom affair.

Historically, Roseland Ballroom has hosted the biggest names in dance music — a long list of DJs we can refer to as the top tier. Wrapping up his Fanfare World Tour, Thomas’ grand finale was more than a show — it was a celebration.

Thomas Gold shines at San Francisco’s Ruby Skye

Thomas Gold Ruby Skye

As it approached midnight, I stood in the enormous line for the ladies’ room at Ruby Skye. Girls chattered about their hurting feet, how to get behind the red velvet rope for VIP, and of course when Thomas Gold would be taking the stage. Suddenly the line went silent for a split-second, and squeals of excitement began to echo as Thomas Gold’s first selections burst through the speakers.

Thomas Gold – MIAO (Original Mix)

Thomas-Gold-MIAO

Another highly anticipated production from the studio of Thomas Gold has finally seen the light of day. Following his bonafide anthem “Sing 2 Me,” the German bootleg master presents yet another golden gem in “MIAO.” Wasting no time, the track is introduced with layers of gritty synths and rumbling bass. Relentless through and through, the pounding beat eventually gives relief to an alluring melodic hook. The light piano spell gives anticipation to the return of the bulky, merciless beat which once again serves blow after blow. “MIAO” has been released on Beatport from an unexpected outlet, Calvin Harris’ Fly Eye Records.

Good Morning Mix – Thomas Gold at Escape from Wonderland 2011

DSC_91981

It was the mix that put him on the map. In 2011, Thomas Gold played at Escape from Wonderland in San Bernardino, California and took over Steve Angello’s Size Matters stage in front of an audience of 20,000 Halloween ravers. The rest was history. His two-hour set went viral as the year’s most popular public outing, and Gold instantly went on to become known as a bootleg master. With a set list too long and complex to even follow, he set the bar high for DJs in 2011 and 2012 with the Gold standard. Thomas would go on to be featured on Pete Tong’s Essential Mix, but nothing compares to his monumental set from San Bernardino. Take a listen to Thomas Gold live from Escape from Wonderland 2011 and find the tracklist below the break.
