Best of the Rest is a daily feature from Dancing Astronaut that recaps the most important posts of the day as well as the stuff we didn’t get to. With the rapidity that dance music news and releases come out it’s difficult for us to hit everything — we hope BOTR serves as a catch-all. Make sure to check it out at the end of each day to ensure you don’t miss anything! (more…)Posted by

as part of the Size Matters squad. Well, this year he returned to the island along with a new crew, new label, and new material — and this time around, he was the star of the show. Actually, he was the star of two shows, having played at Pacha NYC the night before.
Safe to say that New York was poised to receive two very special shows from one of the most exciting DJs — and most versatile producers — in the game. He delivered, in a big way.
Thomas Gold’s bootlegs are so well known that they have even earned the unique moniker ‘Gold-legs.’ Luckily for you, Thomas has decided to give away three ‘Gold-legs’ he’s been playing all summer. The bootlegs mash up well known mainstream songs like Florence + The Machine’s “You’ve Got The Love” and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “By The Way” with summer house anthems. Check them out below and then grab the free download by heading over to Thomas Gold’s facebook page.Posted by
It’s no secret that we at Dancing Astronaut are big fans of the German mega-DJ Thomas Gold, and we are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting his return to the one and only Pacha NYC this Saturday, August 11th. Of course, we want our readers to party in style, so one grand prize winner will win a VIP table for four people with a complimentary bottle of champagne — or energy drinks for the under 21 crowd. As if that wasn’t good enough, it will also come with a Pacha gift bag filled with various kinds of merch (and you just might find some DA gear in there as well).
Even if you aren’t lucky enough to take home the grand prize, we have also secured a guest list to give everyone the chance to see one of the most entertaining DJs out there at one of New York’s best clubs. Anyone 21+ will receive $10 admission before midnight, and 19-20 will have reduced cover. To put yourself on the list, go here, and don’t forget to say Dancing Astronaut at the guest list door.
Update: Tim Mason has been added as support for Saturday night’s festivities. Get your entries in!

Summer might be coming to a close but it’s not over yet, which means we can still enjoy outdoor venues like Governor’s Island. Next weekend the island is hosting not one but two events — making it the perfect time for a double header. John Digweed & Danny Tenaglia will be conducting the madness on Saturday and Thomas Gold will be doing the same on Sunday. If you can’t make it to both, don’t worry because there’s a lot more concert madness in store for the summer.
Dim Mak is beginning to get into the habit of giving away tracks as part of their Free Fridays series. This week comes an edit of Jidax’s “Resistencia” mixed with Thomas Gold’s rework of “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” As the two Parisien producers, Jide and Axel, continue to make a name for themselves in progressive house, head to Dim Mak’s SoundCloud for their latest freebee.

It is almost impossible to keep up with the constant influx of new music that hits our inboxes here at Dancing Astronaut but that doesn’t mean we won’t try our best to keep our loyal readers on the pulse of everything dance music related. There were two huge event announcements today from Goldenvoice and Insomniac, a unique remix of an indie classic from Robbie Rivera, a making of video featuring two of the most beautiful women in dance music today, some nu-disco gems and a radio show from none other than Thomas Gold. Read on after the break for the Best of the Rest from Tuesday, July 17th 2012.
When it comes down to it, the case can be made for pretty much any recognized DJ as to why they should be included in the DJ Mag Top 100. That being said, it is incredibly difficult to select only 5 worthy of a vote. Once you realize that the “rankings” are more akin to a popularity contest and that many of the slots will be given to shoo-ins, the moment will come to make your vote count. After weeks of deliberation, I established my criteria and made my selections for this extension of DA‘s Where My Head’s At.
My DJ Mag Top 100 picks illustrate the DJs that have earned my vote in 2012; they are not necessarily my favorites, nor are they exactly who I believe is “the best.” My votes will go to DJs whose contributions to dance music hold the most weight, and to those who have had an over-the-top impact in 2012. Agree or disagree, every vote counts, so here are mine.
You may have heard that Thomas Gold will be returning to New York’s Governors Island this August, but what you haven’t heard is that you have a chance to win a trip to the show courtesy of the man himself. A new contest on Thomas’ website will send one lucky winner and a friend to either his Governors Island show on August 12th, another pair to his show at Pacha Ibiza on the 24th with Axwell and Pete Tong. The winner will receive flights, accommodations, and entry for two people, while all entrants will receive a free five-minute mini mix of Thomas’ Axtone Presents Thomas Gold compilation as a consolation prize.
With Electric Daisy Carnival becoming a fond but distant memory, we thought we would take a moment to remember all of the fun, music, and insanity that just a few weeks ago invaded the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. While our recap video brings it all together, other artists created their own as well which capture some of the greatest moments at EDC — wind storm not included. Check out videos from Datsik, Thomas Gold, Kaskade, Dada Life, Bingo Players & Insomniac below the break. (more…)Posted by
