Alesso – Years (Hard Rock Sofa Remix)

Almost a full year after Alesso previewed what would become one of the biggest tunes of 2012, “Years” has been revived this week with a remix from Hard Rock Sofa. The Russian remix masters swapped synths for scales, building a completely new progressive house sound before inserting the original’s piano nearly three minutes in. Matthew Koma’s emotive vocals take on a new color when layered over the amped up melody, resulting in a sound a little less pretty but far more peppy than the original. Solving the problem of how to drop the track without dropping the energy, Hard Rock Sofa’s remix is sure to get festival play come spring.

Just yesterday the Hard Rock Sofa boys delivered a gritty remix of  Ludacris, Usher, and David Guetta’s “Rest of My Life,” but they’re already back and teasing us with an upcoming remix of “Years.”  When Alesso’s original version was released in early August it was heralded as one of the biggest tracks of year. Although the track was released months ago, we imagine fans will be happy to have another way to enjoy “Years.” Hard Rock Sofa works to take the focus away from Matthew Koma’s stellar vocals with the addition of big drums, distorted bass, and grinding synths.

The track is set for release on February 12th via Refune.

Alesso top 10

Get ready for a trip down memory lane with the video for Alesso and Matthew Koma’s “Years.” Starting off in the present day studio with Alesso, we’re quickly transmitted back in time when Alesso was just getting started, including when he would burn CDs to bring to gigs and bang out beats on his Moog keyboard. We see his dreams get shattered after getting kicked out of a club, and he even sells his motorbike for cash to buy a non-Apple laptop to get producing for real.

Soon enough, Alessandro is burning copies of “Dynamite” — one of his first big singles — and dropping discs on Sebastian Ingrosso’s windshield with the simple title “Alesso Demo.” Before you know it, Alesso is at the EDC New York main stage, chronicling his incredible rise over the course of a few very short, um, years. It’s a really great video whether you’re a fan of Alesso or not, so be sure to check it out below.

It’s rare that we get as excited to see a vocalist’s name attached to a track as the producer’s, but that’s the case with Alesso and Matthew Koma’s “Years.” Matthew Koma is responsible for the lyrics in “Spectrum,” “Sparks,” and now what could be Alesso’s biggest track of the year. “Years” is incredibly uplifting with the vocals perfectly blending with the chord progression. Artists seem to be lining up to work with Koma because everything he touches turns to gold. With “Years” and his upcoming collaboration with Dirty South, “City of Dreams,” Alesso seems to be unstoppable.
